Driftwood Canyon lies on the west (actually, north here) shore of Lake Powell opposite Cathedral Canyon and about halfway between Dangling Rope Marina and Rainbow Bridge. Driftwood jammed the entrance to this canyon and made early entry by river runners difficultΓÇôhence, the name.
A series of steps chopped into the slickrock immediately left (west) of the entrance are remnants of the trail that once descended to the placer diggings at Klondike Bar just downstream. The steps are visible at or just above lake level depending on the pool elevation. Driftwood Canyon forks and each fork is relatively straight and increasingly narrow.
